FRANCE - Boisemont (27)
History: This E-Type was delivered new to New York where it remained for 4 years before being sold to its second owner in Arizona until 2009. The third and current owner then bought it through a professional who had taken care of the import.
As the car had not been driven for many years prior to its arrival on French soil, the current owner undertook a major restoration: complete paintwork, engine rebuild, running gear rebuild, interior restoration, replacement of the complete exhaust system, rebuild of the complete braking system, etc.
Condition
General: Extremely rare in this original opalescent maroon hue, this E-Type is in generally satisfactory condition. However, a little attention could restore it to its former glory.
Exterior: The car's exterior shows undeniable signs of wear, but this doesn't detract from its natural charm, especially as its overall appearance is preserved and its structure is generally sound. The bodywork is finished in a particularly rare Opalescent Maroon color. Only four E-Type S1 3.8 FHC LHD models are listed in Europe, and only one in France.
As the paint used to repaint the car some 13 years ago was not of excellent quality, a few cracks have appeared over the last two years. They are not related to corrosion problems.
The original chrome around the rear window is also rare enough to be noted. Lights and mirrors are in excellent condition.
Interior: The beige interior matches the body colour perfectly. It shows the history of this Jaguar, notably with its patinated leather; some would appreciate a restoration, while others would prefer to retain this authentic spirit. Being a pre-1964 Series 1, it naturally exhibits the bucket seats as well as the characteristic aluminium dashboard.
Powertrain: The 6-cylinder engine starts and revs well, having been rebuilt 10 years ago during the restoration. The dynamo has been replaced by an alternator (one of the few changes from the original), making it more reliable. The original gearbox has been replaced (but kept and included with the purchase) by a 1965 E-Type gearbox to give 4 synchronised gears and therefore greater comfort in use. The rear brake discs were replaced with larger-diameter, more efficient discs. A Kenlowe fan was also added to cool the engine block, in addition to the original two-blade propeller. Finally, the fuel pump and clutch receiver were changed a year ago.
