History :
This Citroën 2 CV Sahara was delivered new in France in 1961. It has had 5 owners. This is the 57th example produced out of just 693 units built, making it one of the most sought-after 2CV variants for collectors.
The current owner bought the car in 2019, complete but not running. He then launched a complete restoration, including the remanufacture of specific parts for a total of €50,000. The work was carried out by a recognized specialist (Vendée Deuch, 85).
According to the owner's research, this model was assembled during the first weeks of production, under the supervision of the engineers who were all present to oversee the assembly of these first examples, which were quite unusual from a technical point of view.
The engines bear their gold “AW” plates, corresponding to the original engines. The boxes are also the original ones, redone during the restoration.
Condition:
General: This example is in very nice presentation condition.
Exterior: The body is in excellent overall condition. The paintwork is well executed. However, there are a few minor chips on the front right fender, which occurred after restoration. Mirrors, wheels, headlights and soft top are in perfect condition.
Interior: The interior is also very well presented, with beautiful fabric seats that are rudimentary in comfort but authentic. The cabin faithfully reflects the minimalist spirit of the 2CV, while remaining functional and pleasant, and the on-board instrumentation is operational.
Powertrain: The 2 CV Sahara is equipped with two engines, one at the front and one at the rear, each with a displacement of 425 cm³ and 13 horsepower, giving a total output of 26 horsepower. This is a genuine technical feature. Both engines can be activated independently or together, offering excellent cross-country capability. The car is also equipped with two gearboxes, one for each engine. The entire mechanical system was carefully rebuilt during the restoration.
Underframes : The car's underpinnings are very sound, and everything that needed to be redone has been.
