Chevrolet Corvette C4 : du Kentucky au Nürburgring
Depuis 1953, l’itinéraire de la Corvette a été indéniablement tortueux et, pour en arriver aux modèles actuels, qui peuvent se mesurer sans aucun complexe aux meilleures réalisations européennes ou asiatiques, plusieurs décennies auront été nécessaires. De longues années durant, l’auto a préservé un typage résolument américain ; son design, son comportement général, les caractéristiques de ses moteurs, l’ensemble de ses schèmes la rattachaient à une culture aussi spécifique qu’éloignée des mœurs de l’Ancien Monde. Apparue trente ans après les débuts du modèle, la C4 a constitué la première tentative de synthèse entre les paradigmes de la voiture de sport telle qu’on l’a longtemps appréhendée outre-Atlantique et les concepts en vigueur sur le Vieux Continent. Le résultat, audacieux et novateur, en a déconcerté plus d’un mais il a posé les jalons qui ont permis à la « Vette » de revendiquer une crédibilité nouvelle sans pour autant renoncer à sa substance.
