History: This 1969 Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia was delivered new to San Francisco. It remained in California until its current owner imported it to France in 2020. It's important to note that this is a 1969.5 example that benefited from the many improvements made to this model at the end of the vintage. Only 6,500 examples were produced for the '69 model year, making it a very rare collector's car. Today, the car is registered in France, but the owner has retained his American title, as well as his 1969 California “black plate”, which is extremely rare today. The owner also has a file of invoices, attesting to regular and meticulous maintenance. The car has just undergone a complete overhaul.
Condition:
General: The car is in excellent condition.
Exterior: The bodywork is in very good overall condition, with the cypress green paintwork tightly stretched and displaying a beautiful sheen. All the removable parts, as well as the chrome, 15-inch Fuchs wheels (genuine Porsche wheels), mirrors and headlights, are also well preserved, testifying to the attention paid to this car over the years. The light sand fabric soft top, with its imitation lining, is in excellent condition.
Interior: The interior is in very good condition. The upholstery is well cared for, with light sand-colored grained leather seats offering both comfort and good support. The door trim, in matching veined leatherette, adds to the harmony of the interior. The dashboard, with its black imitation and varnished wood trim, is also in perfect condition. The on-board instrumentation is functional. This example is equipped with a glovebox with key lock, and a magnificent original ivory steering wheel with chrome rim. This Volkswagen Karmann-Ghia is equipped with a “JL Audio” amplifier, a “Becker” car radio, and two matching USB ports.
Mechanical: The 4-cylinder engine works perfectly. Start-up is instantaneous, revs are smooth and straightforward, and idle remains stable. No suspicious exhaust smoke is detected. The vehicle is equipped with a B6 engine, more powerful than the original H5.
This 1,584 cm³ B6 flat-four develops 47 DIN horsepower at 4,100 rpm. The AH-type gearbox is a mechanical 4-speed synchronized with reverse. The vehicle is also equipped with disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes at the rear, in very good working order.
A Porsche 356C spare wheel will be included for sale.
Underframes : The undercarriages of the car are sound and free of corrosion. Photos are available upon request.
