FRANCE - Aix-en-Provence
This Karmann-Ghia was delivered new to the United States on April 22, 1969, in San Francisco. I then purchased it directly from its owner in San Francisco in November 2019, before exporting it to France. An interesting fact is that this car has always been registered in California, as it retains its 1960s license plate (Black Plate), which will be included in the sale.
Condition:
General: The vehicle is in excellent condition with no signs of accidents or corrosion.
Exterior: The bodywork and chrome are in perfect condition. However, there is a very slight mark on the rear hood near the Karmann Ghia logo (visible in photos showing imperfections). The paint looks very good and is consistent with the VW Certificate (L62K Cypress Green). The convertible top is in excellent condition and functions perfectly, though there are 2 black marks visible on the top of the convertible roof (visible in photos showing imperfections). The wheels are genuine Porsche Fuchs, and the spare wheel is from a Porsche 356C. They are in perfect condition, with no signs of impact or rust spots.
Interior: The interior is in the same condition as the bodywork, in perfect condition. The upholstery, according to the VW Certificate, is Light Sand leatherette and is in compliance. The seats and carpet are not torn or worn. The seat belts are also original. The dashboard with faux wood has been recently redone. The original radio appears to work but only picks up AM stations.
Mechanical: The engine is not the original one; it is a 1600cc type B6 engine with 47hp DIN, compared to the original 1500cc type H5. However, it is consistent with the era since B6 engines were only installed for the 1970 model year. The engine starts and runs perfectly, starting on the first turn and emitting no smoke. An oil change was performed in early July 2024. The road behavior is particularly good. The braking system was refurbished in early July 2024.
Undercarriage: The undercarriage is very sound and free of corrosion.
