FRANCE - La Londe les Maures (83)
Our example was delivered to its first owner in Florida in 1968.
It was then imported into Belgium in 2017, before being registered in France the same year. This passage through Belgium enabled it to retain all its American specifications; unlike the American 912s imported directly into France, which had to be "Europeanized", notably with a change of lights, making them less authentic.
This 912 is perfectly consistent with its first delivery in 1968.
Since its purchase in 2017, the current owner has had extensive restoration work carried out by specialists.
Its excellent condition earned it first place at the Bormes-les-Mimosas Concours d'Elegance in 2018 and third place at the Paradis Porsche Concours d'Elegance in St-Tropez the same year.
General condition
Exterior: The bodywork is in remarkable condition. The burgundy-red paintwork is of the highest quality. The car has retained its original American configuration and still has its American-specific headlights and reflectors. This 912 was restored five years ago and all corrosion has been treated. Door panels and floorboards were also replaced. The wheels and hubcaps are also in perfect condition.
Interior: The interior is in excellent condition. Many parts are original and well preserved. Only the seats and carpets, in almost new condition, have been replaced.
Powertrain: The engine runs and starts well both hot and cold. Shifting of the 5-speed gearbox is good and well guided. Overall, this 912 is very sound. Braking and suspension are good.
Underpinnings : The underpinnings are sound. More photos are available on request.

In 1965, the venerable 356 bowed out after an eighteen-year career, leaving the more recent 911 to occupy the field alone. Alone? Not quite, in fact, as the demise of the 356 posed a commercial problem for Porsche's management, as the 911 - larger, better equipped and systematically equipped with the company's own flat-six engine - proved to be much more expensive than its predecessor, and consequently out of reach for a number of potential customers. The solution was called the 912, and would embody the German company's entry-level range until the appearance of the VW-Porsche 914 in 1969. Incidentally, the definition of the model was disconcertingly simple: the six-cylinder of the 911 was replaced by the flat-four of the former 356! With its 90 hp, the car is obviously less swift than its sister model, but the seductive appeal of the whole is undeniable.
