It's an understatement to say that Enzo Ferrari was difficult to convince when it came to designing a mid-engined road car. This is one of the reasons why the Dino 206 GT of 1967, and its 2.4-litre evolution two years later, were not 'official' Ferraris - even though, in the hearts of the tifosi, the cause was clear: With its noble V6 and irresistible looks designed by Aldo Brovarone and Leonardo Fioravanti for Pininfarina, the car had everything it took to become the great classic that it is today - and whose general architecture has endured up to the current 296 GTB. Agile, fast and thrilling to drive, the model became even more seductive in 1971 when its GTS version was presented, inspired by the 'Targa' principle and built in just 1274 examples until 1974.
Our 246 GTS was delivered new by the Ferrari dealer in Bologna in September 1972 before being purchased by Ferrari Udine in 1980, who kept it in their private collection until 2010; the car is actually sold with the Italian black plates from that period. It underwent a complete restoration between 2012 and 2013 and was presented at the Concours d'Elegance Suisse in Coppet in 2019. Matching numbers and colours with its very attractive Rosso Dino hue, this car has known only three owners and is in concours condition. Accompanied by its Ferrari Classiche certificate, this car is ideal for driving in next Tour Auto edition, for which it is eligible, as well as for cruising in the French or Italian Riviera.
