Exterior: The owner indicates that the paint is original. The latter has a very beautiful shine, reflecting careful conservation. The chrome trim sparkles, without any trace of oxidation, as do the rims. Every exterior element, from the headlights to the seals, is in impeccable condition. The coupe version, released in around 120 units, is even rarer with the original sunroof!
Interior: The passenger compartment, in excellent condition, offers a very beautiful appearance. The interior is reminiscent of a time capsule, with original trims and finishes. From the seats to the carpet, everything exudes excellence and care. The dashboard, with its shiny instruments, speaks of luxury and refinement. Everything is functional.
Mechanical: The six-cylinder engine runs and starts perfectly. Each component works in harmony, providing optimal performance, worthy of its reputation at the time of its design. The transmission is smooth, with each gear change performed smoothly, and the braking system delivers precision response as expected. The original harness was recently redone

As its nickname suggests, the “Ponton” model was the first Mercedes to integrate the front fenders, mudguards and doors into the fenders. The “Ponton” range, introduced in 1953, was the brand’s first car entirely designed after the war. Its 220 S version was presented in April 1956 with the 6-cylinder in-line powered by a double Solex carburetor.
Our example was delivered to its first owner in Germany in 1957. It was then exported to the United States, to Seattle before returning to Germany. (Contemporary documents are available). The car has had two owners since 2017, in France.

The Ponton series of cars played a major role in Daimler-Benz's post-war renaissance. Introduced in 1954, less than ten years after the end of the war, the car owes its nickname to its modern design - it was the brand's first body to feature integrated fenders, thus definitively turning its back on the hints of the 1940s still carried by the imposing 300s of the W186 series. As was customary in Stuttgart, the model was offered in numerous variants. Extremely refined, combining the charms of driving with a cabin large enough for four long-distance travelers who appreciate the velvety smoothness of the six-cylinder, this great classic is first and foremost a Mercedes, as demonstrated by the rigor of its design!
