It's hard to imagine the impact of the first appearance of the XK 120 "Open Two Seater" at the Earls Court Show in post-war England, where reconstruction was still far from complete and people were still subject to food rationing. The October 1948 show was the first to be held for ten years, and visitors, thirsty for novelty, But it was undeniably the Jaguar stand that won the day, with its strikingly designed sports car prototype and brand-new "XK" six-cylinder engine promising 120 mph (or close to the 200 km/h speed that was fantastical at the time). The rest is history: inaugurating the company's new name, an engine that would not be extinguished until five decades later, and a long series of sports and racing cars, the XK 120 is above all the initiator of a legend!
