Mileage : 12 000 km
Chassis number: 1E78738
History :
The car rolled off the production line in May 1968 and was delivered new to New York the following June. It then spent most of its life in California, in a climate conducive to good structural preservation. An American collector owned it for over 20 years, between 1990 and 2013.
Our Type-E arrived in France via a professional importer in 2013. Its first French owner bought it in 2014 and embarked on extensive mechanical and bodywork work. The current owner bought it in 2022.
Condition:
General: Excellent overall condition.
Exterior: The bodywork was restored in 2017, a rigorous job involving disassembly of the various components, change of joints, etc. The paint was redone in its original shade. Reassembly was carried out with precision to obtain the best possible alignments. Spoke rims and chrome are well preserved.
Interior: The interior of this Type-E has a very attractive, nicely patinated appearance. There is one crack on the edge of the driver's seat, which could do with a local touch-up. Otherwise, the rest of the leather is in fine condition, as are the carpets and headliner. The dashboard was redone in 2017. The black interior color is also original. For greater ease of use in France, the speedometer has been changed to km/h. A rear-view camera has been discreetly installed to aid maneuvering. Finally, this Type-E is equipped with air conditioning, and it works!
Mechanicals: The car is still equipped with its “matching” mechanicals, both for the engine and the gearbox. The 6-cylinder 4.2 works very well, having been completely rebuilt in 2018 (piston rings, bearings, valves, etc.). Electronic ignition has been installed, making the car more reliable and easier to start. The Type-E 4.2's gearbox is much more pleasant to use than those fitted to previous 3.8 versions. On our example, the gearbox has also been treated (new bearings, new clutch sender & receiver, etc.). In recent years, major refurbishment work has been carried out on the running gear (silentblocs, shock absorbers, braking, etc.), to give this Type-E the best possible roadholding. The last overhaul was carried out in June 2024, at the same time as the rack and pinion was rebuilt. The car is therefore up to date.
Underbody: The structure is sound, and photos are available on request. According to the expert appraisals carried out in 2014 and 2017, no traces of accidents have been found.
