History
I bought this Beetle in 1992, it's my first car. The funny thing is that it's the same age as me, give or take a day ;). I drove it every day from 1992 to 1998. Then I went abroad and abandoned it for a while. In 2018, I started its complete restoration and transformation into a Restau Cal: Complete disassembly of body parts, repair and / or replacement of damaged parts, restoration of the chassis and front axle by a specialist body builder, rebuilding and complete transformation of the engine by a professional specializing in beetles and derivatives.
Conditions
Completely restored during the covid period. It is in perfect condition in every respect.
Exterior
The car has been completely dismantled to restore the chassis, bodywork and engine. The custom paintwork includes the interior and exterior. There are a few minor imperfections, notably on the roof and rear bonnet. The exterior of the car is a 67, with the wings and front and rear bonnets replaced. US headlights with smooth lenses replace the original ones.
Interior
The interior has also been customised with leatherette upholstery and made-to-measure carpeting in 2024. The two front seats are Golf GTI seats that were already there when I bought the car. The dashboard has also been customised in Cal Look style, with only the speedometer retained. The headlight buttons have been replaced by LED ones. A lap counter has been added under the dashboard. The gear lever and handbrake bellows are missing, as is the rear parcel shelf trim behind the bench seat. The side windows and deflectors have been replaced by 'one-pane' kits.
Mechanical
The original 1200 engine was used as a basis for upgrading to a 1774cc engine with twin Weber 40 carburettors fed by an electric fuel pump. Enlarged oil sump, full chrome engine cover (the only one I know!). The gearbox was replaced in the 90's by a 67's gearbox, the original having broken. The chassis has been fully restored and is in perfect condition, with no trace of corrosion. The front axle is fitted with a sway a way kit, which gives it a slight droop at the front but still allows it to be driven on roads without any "touching". Disc brakes are fitted at the front.
