Looking at it today, it's hard to imagine that this graceful body is now in its sixties. Yet it was in 1962 that MG introduced the model which, until the appearance of the Mazda MX-5 a quarter of a century later, remained for a long time the world's most mass-produced convertible. By 1980, over 500,000 MGBs (all variants) had left the historic factory in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. In 1967, the model was still in its infancy and, apart from a few cosmetic details, had retained much of its original appearance. Chrome was still very much in evidence, notably on the front grille, while the legendary BMC B-Series engine - which had been fitted with a five-bearing crankshaft instead of a three-bearing one as early as 1964 - displayed sufficient vigor to take the crew to prohibited speeds. A pleasure car par excellence, the MGB nevertheless boasts real versatility of use (there's a real trunk, for example), further enhanced by reliable, low-maintenance powertrains.
