History :
This 2002 Tii was delivered new to garage des Emeraudes, a BMW dealer in Lyon, in early 1972.
Its first owner kept it for nearly 30 years.
The second owner bought it in 2001 and in turn kept it for a long time, for 20 years.
The current owner bought it in early 2024, from an elderly retired Porsche workshop manager, who had kept it for 2 years.
Condition:
General: This example is in very nice overall condition.
Exterior: The bodywork of this 2002 Tii has been repainted in the past. It looks good overall, with the exception of the front wing, which is in need of some work due to the appearance of small blisters on its lower section. It's a removable part, still in production and therefore easy to find new if it needs replacing. The rest of the car is sound. The chrome is quite nice. This 1972 model is one of the last to be fitted with the small round rear headlights that date back to the 60s, which were the most attractive and therefore the most sought-after!
Interior: The interior of this BMW is in brown imitation leather. There are a few signs of use, but the whole remains very well preserved. The seats are good. All the gauges work, except for the odometer, which stopped working last summer. The current owner has fitted a vintage-looking car radio that fits in very well, with a Bluetooth function for appreciable ease of use.
Powertrain: The engine works very well. Unlike the carburettor-equipped 2002 Ti, the Tii is fitted with a Kugelfischer fuel injection system, which adds an extra 10bhp. This is the most powerful version of the BMW 2002 before the 2002 Turbo. In our example, the injection system was well tuned. The cold-start injector is controlled manually by a push-button. Oil consumption is reasonable, which is an interesting indicator of the engine's good health. In terms of consumables, everything is in order (tyres, brakes, oil, etc). Roadholding is pleasant and very stable. Braking is good.
Underpinnings: According to the seller, the car is structurally sound.
Recent work (2024) :
- engine oil change (20W50) with oil filter
- gearbox and axle oil change
- fuel pump
- ignition (spark plugs, wires, finger, head)
- air filter
- battery
- fuel gauge
- repair of front callipers
